Army staff issue
You have probably heard a news report or seen an article at some point talking about how the military, specifically the Army, is have a really hard time keeping their recruitment numbers up. The Army is currently well below their projected goal for this year and next probably won't look any better. so now the real question is when will this begin to affect the Army's operational capabilities?
First of all, the number of people that are even able to serve in the United States military is the lowest it has ever been. Only around thirty percent of young people today are even able to join the military. the two biggest disqualifiers are criminal history and health issue. Many young people have a criminal history that disqualifies them for military service. The health issue, specifically obesity, is one of the major disqualifiers for military serve along with allergies, depression, and anxiety. Because of this they Army has talked about created different physical standards for different jobs in the Army since some jobs are more physically demanding than others. The Obvious issue with that though, is that every member of the military is a potential target for attack, so we all need to be able to out preform any potential enemy even if it's unlikely you'll get attacked.
On a side note, joining that military can just be really difficult sometime. I'm a perfectly healthy individual and I almost wasn't allowed to join because of a health condition that I don't even have. They quickly realized their mistake and allowed me to enlist a month after their incorrect diagnoses, but in that time, I almost decide I didn't want to join the military. On top of that, if you had a medical condition as a child but you don't have it anymore then it shouldn't disqualify you from the joining the military as an adult.
The last major reason for low recruitment number that I'm going to talk about is moral. many people trust in the government was greatly shaken in the last three years and that extends to the Army as well. That's preventing new people from coming in and it's also forcing a lot of current soldiers out. now this isn't unheard of. We had the same issue after Vietnam, so that could improve.
